Notes:
Aided by the spoken word talents of Words & Music host Ian Ferrier, Kathy Kennedy and a choir of voices sang a piece by “seminal avant garde composer Robert Ashley” called “She Was a Visitor,” as well as “Jeux Sonores” written by Montreal’s Robert Léonard. Throw Collective poet and “theatre person” Simon Banderob selected a “wide range” of pieces to perform, including a trilingual (English, French, and German) poem entitled “Revolutionary Body,” a slam piece called “Hostages,” and a fairy tale (“The Story of the Land, and the People, and the Dragon, and the Song”). Allie Weigh kicked off the second set with a ten minute piece called “Relentless” written for her show “Love And Loathing: Gritty Truth About Mothers.” Referred to as “SIW” on the event poster, Sarah Albu (vocals), Ian Ferrier (guitar), and Will Eizlini (tablas) banded together to perform a song inspired by Finnish folk music. Casa Del Popolo’s sound man Steve Godin shared his poetry in a high energy performance set to pre recorded sounds in the third and final set, which closed with “sax and wurlitzer” from Halifax’s xxvii.
