Notes:
Words and Music Show regular Moe Clark was scheduled to appear at La Vitrola on May 21st, 2017, but couldn’t due to illness. The press release and the recording reveal that instead, she premiered ”her exotic new role as an unspoken spoken word artist,” as one of her poems was read by a voice-to-text program. Rabbit Richards then performed one short poem before travelling performance poet Jem Rolls presented “Worship,” and two pieces from his show “The Inventor Of All Things.” Louise Campbell joined W&M Show host Ian Ferrier on stage for an instrumental piece featuring electric guitar and clarinet. “Blown into town from the UK” and visiting Canada for the first time, “poet and theatre artist” Matt Miller read some of his original work, including “Dad, It Still Becomes You,” “Time For Heroes.” “From the west coast comes the vastly entertaining Johnny MacRae,” who opened the second set with a poem “halfway between silliness and seriousness,” and pieces called “Jokes,” “Color of Blood,” “Immunodeficiency,” and “Stinkweed.” HOWL Festival organizer Stefan Christoff rounded off the evening with “a new personal project” on electric guitar.
