Notes:
The Words and Music Show of Sunday 15 June 2008 featured the melodic trance music of Pharmakon “a 5 piece ensemble featuring Ian Ferrier on voice and verse” along with special guest, Alberta spoken word star and Moe Clark on verse and sung vocals. Moe Clark had just launched her new CD Circle of She in Calgary. Her improv work with Pharmakon had begun in Banff, Alberta and this was the Montreal debut of this collaboration. The show also featured Sadio Sissokho of Senegal, “from the African Griot tradition”, accompanied by musicians on kora, kalimba, djembe and guitar. According to the show description, “This concert was especially conceived for the Suoni per il Popolo festival” to explore “the range of the oral tradition in literature and song.” Held at the Casa del Popolo, 9pm, $5, this show was “sponsored by the Suoni per il Popolo Festival and all its sponsors, as well as the Canada Council for the Arts, the Quebec Writers’ Federation, CKUT 90.3 FM and Wired on Words Productions.
