As the kick off show of 2008, the Sunday January 20th Words and Music show at Casa del Popolo was billed as a collaboration with Wired on Words, the Société des Arts Libres et Actuels, musicians and artists from Québec’s English Language Arts Network (and sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Quebec Writers’ Federation and CKUT 90.3 FM). The show presented spoken word by “Groove Poet” Lydia Lockett, “heated words” by Inuit poet Taqralik Partridge, plus words and music by Erica Ruth Kelly and the Chicago-style blues of the Stephen Barry Band. Hosted by Ian Ferrier, the show started at 9pm and cost $5 to attend. A tag line on one of the posters read, “stomp those wintry blues”.
