Side A of the recording contains a recorded lecture by UBC English professor Warren Tallman from his undergraduate course, ENGL 312: Studies in Poetry. This 50 minute lecture was recorded on September 19, 1986 in the Buchanan Buildings at UBC. In the recording Tallman defines and lectures about poetic vocabulary including discussions about the concepts of "metaphor," "ego," Ernest Fenollosa's "metaphor as transfer of energy." Unidentified students are occasionally audible throughout the recording asking questions, answering questions, and contributing to the class discussion.
