CONTENT

Contents:
This tape copy contains a recording the first of three guest lectures Robert Creeley gave at Warren and Ellen Tallman's house on 37th Street, Vancouver, B.C. This particular lecture was recorded on August 26, 1962. The following two lectures were given on August 28 and August 29, 1962. These two lectures were also recorded, and are available in the Frank Davey fonds of the SoundBox Collection (2014.002.001). Frank Davey recorded the event and references the event in his book When TISH Happens (p. 160-2). In this lecture Robert Creeley discusses the question, "what is poetry?" He draws on the definitions of many writers and poets including Joshua Whatmough, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Conquest, Ezra Pound, Edward Sapir, Walt Whitman, and William Carlos Williams.
